Evaluation Level 2 Platform Explorer
Evaluation Level 2 Platform Explorer
I done
ten initial sketches for this project which was each member of Slipknot (past)
and two of Corey because Corey’s mask evolved with each album whilst the other
8 had kept the same basic design. To do these I used the Wacom bored and pens
in Photoshop using the brush tool. I feel I was pretty successful in these
tools because if you look through my blog you’ll be able to see these for
yourself. Drawing helped formulate my idea because it was making the idea of
the mosh more concrete and drawing the Slipknot
ones gave me the idea to stem from slipknot
to other metal bands such as Bullet for
my valentine or Amon Amarth.

2D Creative problems
Throughout
my project I had drawn out many initial ideas my personal favourite being the
10 slipknot ones. I drew these on
Photoshop using the Wacom pens and bored and the brush tool. I feel I was
pretty successful in these tools because if you look through my blog you’ll be
able to see these for yourself. Drawing helped formulate my idea because it was

3D creative Problems
When
doing my models I used drawings to think about the placement of each indent or
where to place the eyes and mouth. The research I conducted was finding a
decent Vol. 3 ‘The Subliminal Verses’ Mask to help me place all the
stitching and the mouth hole and eye holes. We used the terracotta clay to make
this mask whilst to make Mr.7’s mask we used air-drying clay. Personally I
preferred the terracotta clay because with the air drying clay we were under a
limit to design it before it dries. We had to wedge the terracotta clay to get
rid of all the air. And we had to keep wetting them both so they didn’t dry
out. Evaluation for solving time-based creative problems:
Drawing and designing a 3D model of levels helped me because I was able to figure out where I wanted things to be placed like bosses or Easter eggs. The research I done helped me to understand which made a good platform game and a bad one. The software used throughout this project was Construct 2 to actually make the game and Photoshop to design the characters and things. I had only one problem learning construct I had troubles understanding it all it and still find it difficult.

Aaron Chen
Aaron Chen
Here is some of Aaron Chen’s work I find it interesting as some of his
work is mechanical. I like it also as it’s a little out there in the design with
the robot and human suit thing

Making our Moulds
With making these moulds there was a
ratio from plaster to water witch was 2:1. In making these moulds as normal
there was some steps we followed:
1.Cleaning
out the latex cases with water to get rid of left over clay
2.Using
PVA glue and water Shiam made a paste to strengthen the plaster.
3.Shiam
then added the plaster and mixed it with the PVA to make a thicker paste
4.Shiam
poured the Paste into our latex moulds
5.We
had to tap the tub holding the moulds getting rid of the air
As expected we had some performance issues
which were: finding out where the holes were causing us to loose plaster, also
it was rushed so the moulds that were too small for the pot kept falling in… we
needed to be more prepared
Along with that there were also
things that went right which were: we managed to get the mixture right because
it started to get warm.
We had to wear aprons to protect our
clothes as if the plaster got on to our clothes it’d harden and could ruin our
clothes.
We needed to repeatedly tap the
mould so that the air would go to the top and escape the mould.
Some materials that can be casted
are: metal, concrete and plastic resin
Different forms of moulding:
1.
Blow moulding
2.
Powder metallurgy plus sintering
3.
Compression moulding
4.
Extrusion moulding
5.
Injection moulding
6.
Laminating
7.
Reaction injection moulding
8.
Matrix moulding
9.
Rotational moulding
10.
Spin casting
11.
Transfer moulding
12.
Thermoforming

Final Design (Johan Hegg)
I finished the colouring of Amon Amarth’s Johan Hegg for this I used
Photoshop and each time I went on to something different I.E. going from his
skin to his shirt. That is the final design. My idea also contained The Rev
from ‘Avenged sevenfold’ though I decided
against that because I just thought it’d save time
What Is a platform game?
A platform game is a genre of games;
it involves two-dimensional graphics with the player controlling the character
making it jump to other platform or climb up ladders etc. You do this to avoid
letting your character fall to their doom. Platform
games originated in the early 1980s, with 3D successors popularized in the
mid-1990s. The term itself describes games where jumping on platforms is an
integral part of the gameplay and came into use after the genre had been
established, no later than 1983.Wednesday, 20 January 2016
Mould/Clay models
This is
the mould we made using the liquid latex ^^
Here is the
model with the base layer ^^
This is
what the air drying model looked like when wet without paint ^^
Mould/Clay models
The Terracotta
clay was used to make a mould out of latex - so we can make assets for the
game. The air drying clay was used make a model and paint over it.
The painting process of the air drying
clay was first to paint a base coat (if you’re doing a dark colour –black – it was
best to use a light colour like white) then we painted the clay a colour we
Wanted our Models to be Coloured. I used grey blending it from dark to light.
Using a base coat helped because it
stopped the clay from being dusty and the colour we wanted to use being sucked
into the clay. The dry finish of the acrylic paint is that it’s shiny and has a
nice shiny affect.
You blend paint by having it wet and
mixing the colours evenly so it’s not just going from black to white it goes black
dark grey, grey, light grey, white. Mick Thomson’s mask had an old-ish rusty
effect so to make that I just dabbed the brush around the areas where it looked
old

There were
a few drawings that I had used throughout this project: I drew Johan Hegg from Amon Amarth, there was Michael Paget
from the welsh band Bullet For My Valentine;
I had drawn all nine past members from Slipknot
because. I have drawn the stage set up of a slipknot
concert since their latest album .5 the grey chapter.
To
do all these I drew them on Photoshop to then uploading them to my blog, I also
used pictures underneath to help me develop my proportions. Some photo were my
own from concerts I had been to
We've used a range of materials; a
select few are: terracotta clay, air drying clay, liquid latex and Acrylic
paint.
Drawing out my ideas helped me a
little to understand the design process of the masks to slipknot. It also gave me an understanding to the designing too. It
also helped me understand the placements to the slipknot stage and how it fits
so well.
Drawing
out my idea helped my thought process because I had the idea to stretch out
from slipknot to other bands such as Bullet,
Amon and Avenged Sevenfold
My
most recent drawing was ‘The Rev’ From Avenged
Sevenfold.
The
techniques used were: modelling, moulding, drawing wise; tracing and Photoshop
painting. Processes used developing my concept work from initial drawings
through to developed drawing then taking it to Photoshop to paint
This
was successful in helping me because I was able to develop my work throughout
the project and improving it. Comparing my first clay model to my second; the
second one (Mick Thomson) has been made to have 3D effect whilst the first one
(Corey Taylor) has a normal 2D effect.

Potential Characters
These are sketches for potential character within my game. The bottom one (With the axe) 'Johan Hegg' is the front man from the Swedish metal band 'Amon Amarth.' The person in the suit goes by the name 'The Rev' (James Owen Sullivan) from the american metal band 'Avenged Sevenfold' my idea is to ask the class which one they'd prefer to play as
Sidenote -No Johan Hegg does not have a playable axe

Clay Model No.2
We used a different type of clay called air drying so it was a little more difficult because we had to keep putting slip on the clay to hydrate it. Using the clay i had made Mick's 'All hope is gone' mask.
the clay is different to the terracotta because there's fibres within the clay and it dried within the air
Clay model No.1

Using terracotta clay (professional clay) we had to make an asset for our platform games. I had decided to make a mask; the picture above was the mask I chosen - Corey Taylor's 'Vol.3 The Subliminal Verses' mask.
working with the clay there was a number of steps we had to follow:
-First we had to wedge the clay (Taking out all the air) by banging it against the table just.
-Second we had to mould the clay to make the asset or character of the game
We used different equipment and techniques. some of the clay tool detailers were to make fine adjustments; whilst the techniques was the wedging.
we crafted these moulds to then later layer them in latex so then we have our moulds. if people were to stick some to their clay they'd use the cut and slip technique which is like cross-hatching then using slip (Slip is watered down clay) to make sure it sticks.

Stage for the game
I chose to do the Slipknot stage (the picture above isn't finished) due to the fact that my game is heavily based upon Slipknot being the band that's performing. I used their latest stage set up
